This week for Behind the Diapers I am branching out of the cloth diapering world once again and am meeting with Rachel of Bee All Natural – home of all natural body products. Rachel is one a very busy mama – not only is she the creator, owner and developer of Bee All Natural products she also works as a automotive safety restraint designer for an automotive supplier.   In 3 short years she has developed a product and business which is distributed in over 25 retail stores.  Let’s learn more about her and how she does it all!

Please tell us about your family.

I’m married to a great guy and have two children (and a kitty).  My son Trevor is 5 and my step-daughter Isabel is 8.

What the inspiration for creating your Bee All Natural products?

Bee All Natural was founded when I couldn’t find the quality skincare products I was searching for.  Tired of buying “natural” products that were petroleum based and filled with preservatives and perfumes, I set-out to develop skincare solutions that would be safe for every member of my family.

The daughter of an organic dairy farmer, I was raised to believe in the connection between diet and health.  Since our skin is our largest organ, I wanted the products I chose for my family’s skincare to reflect the same quality and goodness as those that I chose for their nutrition.

Please tell us about your testing and manufacturing process.

I have learned that it isn’t enough to just read labels.  As a mother it became my responsibility to learn about the ingredients that my son was ingesting as well as what I was applying to his sensitive skin.  I began to investigate skincare ingredients, preservatives, perfumes and dyes.  I learned that just because a product is for infants or children and the label claims that it’s ‘natural’ that doesn’t make it so.

Working independently, I research, test and develop each of my products from start to completion.  The ingredients and final products are certified organic and are “food grade” quality. What you put on your body eventually makes its way into your body, so “food grade” is very important.  I make each product from scratch and never use pre-made bases.  Packaging each batch myself, I even design and print my own labels and carry each order to the post office or retail location.

What are your short term and long term hopes and goals for Bee All Natural?

Short term…  keep working hard
Long term…  being about to support my family while being an at home mom.

What the product of yours that you use the most?

The organic baby body butter – Raw Whipped Shea Butter!  Awesome stuff :)

What advice would you give to other moms starting a business?

In general as with anything, dedication, hard work and patience will lead to success.  Be prepared to hear “No.” or to experience rejection, it is how you respond to the negative that determines if you are successful or not.

What are your other hobbies and outside interests?

I love everything.  Working in the yard and garden.  I love teaching my kids how food grows and how great it can taste.
Products and development of course 😉

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

Ahh…   sleeping in one day a week.

Who, living or dead, would you most like to do lunch with?

My mom – My mother is my personal hero, while raising a successful, well-balanced family she also built her own painting business that reflected her personal interests and talents.  She demonstrated to me that with hard work and dedication anything is possible and I’ve applied much of what I learned from watching her to developing my own business interests.

Thank Rache!
