Meet Morgan
Many of our forum members have been cloth diapering for years and and their knowledge is invaluable to the cloth diapering community. This week, join Brittany as she interviews long time Diaper Pin forum member Morgan.
Morgan is a SAHM to two kiddos, Amelia age 7 and Eli age 3 and has been married to Laird for almost 14 years. She enjoys knitting, reading, cooking and Pinning, of course! A friend introduced her to cloth and she stumbled onto the Diaper Pin forum via a Google search and is SO glad she did because not only did she receive invaluable cloth diapering advice and tools, but she has made several friendships with other Pin mamas that she treasures greatly!
Why did you choose to use cloth?
A friend was using cloth on her kiddos and it interested me mostly because of the money I could save! And then through the Pin I learned all about nasty disposable diapers and all the chemicals and such that they are made of and so that made me a believer! And I am not really crunchy, really at all, but I liked the idea that I wasn’t adding more diapers to the landfills EWW!
How long have you used cloth?
I started CDing my son when he was 3 months old, he is mostly potty trained now, except at night.
What is your favorite diaper and why?
My favorite diaper hands down is the GMD Workhorse! So many reasons-first, they are cotton, easy peasy to care for and I don’t have to baby them. Second-the cost! They are so inexpensive and you can build a whole stash without spending a ton of money. I also love the variety of sizes, you can use them on newbies on up to potty-training! And finally, they are great to use coverless which is really nice. They contain poo nicely and hold quite a bit of liquid too!
Did you encounter any difficulties during your cloth diapering years?
One major diffculty was AMMONIA! Bleck! I tried every.thing. And it wasn’t until I started using a wet pail with vinegar and water that the vinegar finally went away.
Do you have a funny story to share that was a result of using cloth?
A couple months ago I forgot to put the diapers in the dryer and so I had to find something for DS to wear to bed because we had NO sposies! So I started thinking and brainstorming and ran to the kitchen and grabbed a flour sack towel and folded up a prefold inside the towel and pinned that baby on! Perfection! Had I never found the Pin I don’t think I would’ve had the resources to put that together!
How did you get started knitting?
My mom knows how and was making some things and I became interested because I liked using woolies on DS and they can be so expensive so I thought it might be something I could do myself and it.took.off. I was completely hooked!!! Now I have my own store on Hyena Cart-Me’s Makings, which is part of a congo, Pins and Needles, that is all Pin mamas selling our handmade goodies! Here’s a picture of my current stash, which tends to change VERY regularly because I can’t resist me some yummy yarn!
What has been your favorite knitted project to make?
Oh man, that’s a tough one! My favorite thing to knit is probably a skirty! They are absolutely adorable, girly and fun and frilly! This is a picture of the first one I made and it was a gift for my IRL CDing friend’s DD.
How have the Diaper Pin forums helped you in your cloth diapering journey?
The Diaper Pin forums have been an INVALUABLE tool for me the past 3 years. I remember when I first started with cloth and I was completely overwhelmed! Then I found the Pin doing a search for cloth diapers and I started by using the reviews that are available to help me narrow down what I wanted to try and then when I had questions I was welcomed with open arms by this awesome network of mamas! I love that I have developed friendships with so many of them and friendships that will continue for a long time And the Pin is SO much more that a cloth diapering forum! You can go there with ANY type of question about any topic and find people to help out and give you advice or support. I remember when I miscarried 2 years ago there was SO much support here and I really felt like this was a place where people understood what I was going through. And IRL people would tend to say the wrong thing or just be insensitive, but not Pin mamas! They really helped me through that time and I am VERY grateful that I “stumbled” over here 3 years ago because the forum has helped me a ton with all the info, but it’s the people that really make the Pin what it is!
